What I’ve Learned from Sitting at Every Table

I’ve been in a lot of meetings over the years — IEPs, evaluations, student support teams, family consults. And what I’ve learned is that every seat at the table brings a different strength.

Parents offer lived experience, deep love, and unique insight into who their child truly is beyond the data. Educators bring structure, curriculum knowledge, and a desire to help students succeed. Mental health professionals offer regulation strategies, emotional understanding, and support for behaviors that are not always easy to explain.

Because I’ve sat in each of those chairs — as a school psychologist, a professor, and now a therapist — I understand how easily miscommunication can happen. I’ve seen how quickly trust can fray when people are overwhelmed, overworked, or just trying their best with different understandings of the same child.

That’s why Bison Bridge exists.

I help bridge language gaps, clarify expectations, and keep everyone focused on what matters most: the child. Whether I’m working with a school district, guiding a parent through an IEP meeting, or consulting with a clinician on educational supports, my goal is the same — to bring collaboration, clarity, and compassion to the table.

Because when we work together, children thrive.
